If, this time last year, you told me that I would fit into Size 8 jeans, I would have told you to go whistle. I started my WW journey in February 2016 and to say it has changed my life is an understatement. I don’t reward myself with food now, which is what I would have done before. Instead, I buy something nice or maybe treat myself to a spa day.

It was in 2014 when I started to put on weight. I had been sick, spent some time in hospital and had to take some time out of work. I also had to stop going to the gym, and to make matters worse, I wasn’t making the best food choices. You feel down about eating the crappy food and you feel down about not exercising. It’s a vicious circle. You get into that vicious circle and it’s very hard to break out of it. Then I saw a photo after a night out for a friend’s birthday and I wasn’t happy with the way I looked.  My confidence took a huge knock. I knew I had to cop myself on. It was the shock that it needed. The next Tuesday I attended my first Wellness Workshop with Hilda McGrath and I haven’t looked back.

I am not a fan of ‘fad diets’ which is why I love the WW plan so much. It is all about a lifestyle change. You eat smart, do some exercise and after that you reap the rewards. You don’t feel deprived or hungry. It changes your mindset too and how you look at food.

After my Tuesday weigh-ins I would ring my family to give them an update on my results. They always shared words of encouragement to keep me going in the right direction and after a few weeks, Fiona, my sister, joined with me, having seen first-hand the extent to which I was losing weight whilst still enjoying food.

Not only is Fiona my WW partner she is also my gym partner. We really have motivated each other over the last year. Whenever one of us was feeling a little bit down, or lacking in motivation to maybe go to a Wellness Workshop, the other would provide the drive needed. We both keep each other on track and we also go shopping together, one with the trolley and the other with our SmartPoints calculator in hand! The support of always there. If I’m running late in work, she’ll have something prepared for me, and vice versa.

We enjoy going out and the plan hasn’t affected our social life in any way. You can still have your glass of wine, your vodka, your spirits…that’s what’s great about WW, they realise that you have to live as well. Their mantra is Be Real, Not Perfect.

In total, I have lost over 4 stone. I am only a half a pound off goal, so it’s very exciting. I’m proud of all I’ve accomplished. I feel amazing and now live a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Aisling’s Tips:

  • Make time for yourself. You’re not going to go achieve your goal unless you make time for it.
  • Plan, Plan, plan. Plan your meals, plan when you’re going to go shopping, plan when you’re going to eat. It will take a few weeks to get into the swing of things, but in no time at all, it will become part of your life.
  • If you do decide to join, hang on for the talk, even if you have had a bad week. Everyone is the same boat. We’re all there for the same reason. Nobody is going to judge. I haven’t missed a single Wellness Workshop from the get-go. I find every week, there is something new to learn.
