I joined WW in 2001, a student in Waterford at the time. My weight began to creep up on me after my Dad passed away. I was 18 at the time, and should have been enjoying college life but instead I was at home, sitting in, comfort eating and getting into a diet rut. With my weight spiraling, something had to be done. I decided to join a Wellness Workshop in Waterford, where I was attending college at the time. This was the best decision I’ve ever made.   The program worked for me and I saw instant results. I began regaining confidence and physically felt much better about myself. When I finished college, I started attending the Clonard studio in Wexford town, which is now one of the Wellness Workshops that I run.

I got to my goal weight after losing 2 stone. Over the years, I’ve stayed on goal. I have 2 daughters who are aged 7 and 9 and after each pregnancy, I returned to studio and regained control of my weight again.

I became a Wellness Coach five years ago. It’s hard to believe that my dream job came about as a result of my own weight loss. There are not many jobs that allow you to witness people making the most positive changes to their lives, looking better, feeling better and getting healthier. It’s really is quite amazing and because I was that member, I know exactly how they are feeling and how fantastic it is when they are successful. As a leader, I try to give my members as much support and encouragement as possible. Support is crucial to members’ success and I try to be with them every step of the way.  But the support also comes from other members in the class and there has been many friendships formed through this. The meetings are fun, informative and we all learn something from each other through the sharing of thoughts, ideas and opinions.

The SmartPoints plan is fantastic. It focuses on 3 principals, healthier food choices, increased fitness and a basic feeling of wellbeing. As a leader, I try to give my members as much support and encouragement as possible. I think support is critical to my members achieving success and I try to be with them every step of the way.  But the support also comes from other members in the class and there has been many friendships formed through this.  The meetings are fun, informative and we all learn something from each other through the sharing of thoughts, ideas and opinions. I also provide the WW At Work option where I go into businesses to carry out 8 week courses using WW’ SmartPoints Plan, which focuses on 3 key principals: healthier food choices, increased fitness and a basic feeling of wellbeing. Being crowned Wellness Coach of the year was an incredible achievement for me. I still feel like a relatively new leader in a company that’s so well established, so I’m over the moon to be given the title and like in any profession, it’s always lovely to be given the recognition for your work. I give my Wellness Workshops and my members 100%, I put a huge amount of effort and thought into my talks each week”.

Siobhan’s top tips for success

  • Use your daily SmartPoints wisely.
  • Increase activity levels. Even if it’s just a walk. Having made the effort, you’ll be more careful about what you eat for the rest of the day.
  • Things go wrong. You’ll have bad days. Don’t let setbacks set you back. Wake up with a fresh outlook and a positive mind-set.
  • Don’t skip breakfast. Ever.
  • If you’re a WW member, don’t skip a class. Once you miss one that can easily roll into two and so on. Accountability is so important.
